Mission
At Boston Dance PT, we believe in a comprehensive approach to recovery, where technique, self-care and maintenance, knowledge and skilled therapeutic manipulation come together to improve not only the potential of the individual dancer, but the longevity of their career.
Physical Therapy
One of the most important relationships in a dancer’s arsenal is that between the artist and their physical therapist. Trust and knowledge are integral to that relationship. A dancer must know that the therapist has first-hand knowledge of their physical demands, and the ability to adapt with the client to ensure the best outcome for both injury and performance. Boston Dance PT can facilitate this delicate balance for professionals and students alike.
Pointe Readiness Evaluations
A student’s readiness for pointe is a delicate decision. One that should include teachers, parents and a skilled medical professional well-versed in the technical and strength requirements that are involved. An experienced fitter is then trusted with the task of finding a shoe that meets the beginner pointe student’s needs. At BDPT, we work closely with studios in the area, provide outreach and education and have several area fitters in constant communication about making these choices for your young dancer.
Injury Prevention
Most injuries in the advanced dancer, young or seasoned, occur over time as a result of utilizing compensatory strategies instead of proper technique. These anomalies combined with overuse can lead to season or career-ending injuries that can be devastating, physically and emotionally.
Any small ache or pain should be paid mind and even without early signs it is prudent to constantly assess the technical prowess and overall wellness of every dancer. At Boston Dance PT, we provide skilled evaluation and care before injuries present, and, using verbal and tactile feedback, correct any improper strategies or technique proactively to keep dancers strong and healthy.
